RISE Up and Shine

In the third session of the 2024/25 GirlsGetSET programme, Year 10 students visited Baker Hughes in Cramlington for a hands-on STEM experience. Tasked with simulating an odometer used in pipeline inspections, students explored Arduino circuits and basic coding. Split into teams of hardware and software engineers, they built circuits and programmed Arduino circuits to measure distance using a 3D-printed hand crank with a magnet—each turn triggering a light to simulate fault detection in pipelines. The students collaborated effectively, showing enthusiasm, problem-solving, and perseverance. This engaging session deepened their understanding of real-world engineering and reflected the school’s values of faith, resilience, and a quest for innovation.
