Learning
The Year 12 Psychology class attended a taster day at Northumbria University with Mrs Jewitt.
This experience allowed students to experience two lectures on Forensic and Clinical Psychology, an active research session and a campus tour alongside other Psychology students from the region.
In the first session, students were inspired by Dr Faye Horsley who discussed her practice working with convicted arsonists within prison and secure hospital settings. Students were left considering their childhood experiences of exposure to fire and their schema of it now in adolescence. In the second session, students experienced a Clinical Psychology session focusing on childhood anxiety and hoarding disorders with Dr Laura Clark. During the active research, students participated in a qualitative experiment exploring youth anxiety and help-seeking behaviour. This gave them hands on experience of ethical issues within research and experimental design. A fantastic day experiencing university life!
