Students visited Baker Hughes, Process & Pipeline Services in Cramlington for the final session of the 2024/25 GirlsGetSET programme, part of their wider STEM engagement through Quest.
They gained hands-on experience with four departments: planning a pipeline inspection with Project Management; using vernier calipers with Engineering; assembling sensor fingers for pigs (Pipeline Inspection Gauges) with Operations; and analysing pipeline data with the Data Analysis team.
Students completed a reflection survey, responding to “What most inspired you during GirlsGetSET?” with answers like:
“K’nex robotic challenge,”
“The variety of things we were introduced to,”
“Equality and accessibility,” and
“Meeting people in the field and understanding how jobs link to science.”
The visit was an inspiring conclusion to the programme, encouraging students to explore STEM careers and supporting GirlsGetSET’s mission of promoting gender equality and opportunity in engineering.
