Learning
Our Year 10 GCSE Design and Technology students have been exploring different ways of modelling and testing design ideas. The students were set a brief to design either a 'money holder' or a 'phone holder' using the work of a famous designer as their style influence. Once the students had produced a range of sketched ideas which fit the brief, they had the opportunity to test them out using a variety of modelling techniques, including the use of CAD, which allows students to see their idea in virtual reality from all angles. Students were also able to make a scale model of their idea in corrugated card to explore size, proportion and aesthetic values. Function and manufacturing techniques were also tested. This type of exploration work allows students to come to decisions about how to proceed with the making of the products they design.
