ST BENET BISCOP
CATHOLIC ACADEMY
Part of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust
SCHOOL VISION & MISSION
We are proud of our Catholic tradition and take seriously our responsibility to nurture the Faith in our young people and to support them on their spiritual journey through life. Parents choosing to send their child to St Benet Biscop Catholic Academy are opting specifically for an education within the setting of a Catholic school. We are part of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and, as such we belong to the strong family of Catholic primary and secondary schools through-out the North East.

Mission Statement
Inspired by our Christian faith, our mission is to provide the highest standard of education and opportunity for all our students, enabling them to live their lives to the fullest.

To seek wholeness through faith,
quest and learning to become
what God intends us to be.

There are three key strands in the mission statement. Faith, quest and learning.
Through these three strands, we ensure that our students live out our rise values to allow them to Rise up and Shine, to become what God intended them to be.

All St Benet Biscop students will:
Rise up to Faith
At St Benet Biscop, both staff and students come together in one community to explore and grow in spiritual understanding, living out the gospel values through the St Benet Biscop way and the mission statement. This sense of mission nurtures each individual, made perfect in the image of God, to experience a relationship with Christ, who is truly at the centre of the school.

Rise up to Quest
At St Benet Biscop, our wider extracurricular and enrichment curriculum provides opportunities for the holistic development of the individual.
Students have leadership opportunities to build experience, confidence and skills developing character.
Our Careers programme allows students to understand links between careers and subject areas, including transferable skills, and ensures that they have the information to make informed future choices. Our reward culture will allow students to recognise the value of commitment and determination.

Rise up to Learning
At St Benet Biscop, we have designed a curriculum in which the intellectual, physical, social, moral and spiritual development of every student is able to flourish. As a result, students strive for the highest standards in all endeavours, being able to achieve success and prepared to make their own positive contribution to our world.
Self-regulated learners are aware of their strengths and weaknesses and can motivate themselves to engage in and improve their learning. At the heart of this is meta-cognition. Through our curriculum, we give students opportunities to have knowledge and control over cognitive skills and processes. We help our students to understand how learning happens, and to actively and independently apply this understanding to help them learn in the most effective way and to sustain that learning into the future.
Through PSHE and the curriculum of individual subject areas, students should gain an appreciation of the British values of democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law and mutual respect for those of other faiths and beliefs, as well as commitment to promote the Equality duty.
