In registration, 7B have started reading ‘The Beck’ by Anthony McGowan. The story follows Kyle, who is far from happy when he is sent to spend time with his eccentric grandfather. Kyle expects the visit to be dull, especially as his grandfather lives differently from everyone else, wears an Elvis wig, and keeps an unusual three-legged dog called Rude Word.

We are currently two chapters into the novel and have already been introduced to some memorable characters and an intriguing setting. Kyle's scepticism about the visit contrasts sharply with his grandfather's quirky personality, leaving us wondering whether the weekend will turn out to be quite different from what Kyle expected.

The class is thoroughly engaged so far, and we are eager to discover how Kyle's relationship with his grandfather develops as the story unfolds. We are also looking forward to finding out more about Rude Word and the beck itself, which appears set to play an important role in the novel.
