National Poetry Day 2026

Learning

For National Poetry Day on the 1st October, students will explore the work of Rowan McCabe, a poet from South Shields whose performances celebrate regional identity and encourage audiences to think about important social issues. Pupils will watch and discuss one of Rowan's poems before taking part in their own creative writing and performance activities inspired by his work.

We're also excited that Rowan will be visiting our school on 1st December to work with a group of students who have shown outstanding effort and commitment to Sparx Reader. Keep reading, keep trying your best, and students could be selected to meet a professional poet in person!
