Our Year 12's are reading Henry James’s 'The Turn of the Screw' in preparation for their next book club meeting. Horror was the suggested genre and this novel is certainly a masterclass in psychological horror, where every glance and silence teeters between the supernatural and the sinister depths of the human mind. With each turn of the screw, the tension tightens—until reality itself begins to unravel.

In the shadowed corridors of a remote English estate, a young governess arrives to care for two angelic children. Only to find herself ensnared in a chilling mystery. As whispers echo through Bly Manor and ghostly figures loom at the windows, she becomes convinced that malevolent spirits are preying on her charges. But is the threat real, or a descent into madness?

Year 10 students are reading a more Christmas-themed ghostly tale in their English Literature lessons this term - the old classic 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens.
