Sixth Form Book Club: Exploring 'Night Shift' by Stephen King

Quest
This month, we took a trip into the unsettling world of Stephen King, reading a collection of short stories.
While the stories weren't always traditionally 'scary', they provided fascinating explorations of the human psyche, examining fear, obsession, desperation, and the darker sides of human nature. Some of our standout favourites included ""The Ledge,"" with its nail-biting suspense, ""Quitters, Inc.,"" which offered a dark take on breaking bad habits, ""The Boogeyman,"" a chilling look at fear and guilt, and ""I Know What You Need,"" which raised thought-provoking questions about love, control, and destiny.
As a group, we enjoyed discussing how King combines ordinary people with extraordinary circumstances. Whether featuring mysterious creatures, strange events, or the hidden fears lurking within people's minds, 'Night Shift' gave us plenty to talk about. And we are converts to Stephen King.
Next month: 'The Death of Ivan Ilyich' by Leo Tolstoy
